In NYC (if it's closer for you) consulate you get the renewed/New Passport back on same day. I renewed my Kids passports there got back on same day.
For myself, I renewed in SFO back in 2001 and got them back in 5-7 days.

Translate it. Sign a letter of your compretence of English ? Hindi language & get it notarized. It is that easy. Do not waste a signle penny on translation. I have been doing it for ages.

I am not on I140 now but in my situation ( whenever that comes, if that comes!)..I have been working for my current emplyer for 7 years and if I were to file I140 tomorrow :) ..am I supposed to look & get the job experience from soebody I worked around 7 years ago...they don't even remember me!
my situation- labor filed Oct 2001( after 9/11 happened, I could have applied earlier but for my stupidity!)..(my attorney filed in EB3 ..and I do not know why..)..and I am stuck in the mud now...
please let me know...because I will have to really folow up on them..

One more question, If I need to add my parents also as a sponsor for the fee/expense for my wife, but they are in India how do I show there bank statement as that will be in Indian Rupees and what documents they I need to get from them to show to INS at the time of status change from H4 to F1.

Hello,
Here is my situation.
- I'm under EB2 - RoW category. My I-140 just got approved and I was preparing to file for my I-485 (current)
- I went to the Bahamas last week to get my 3 year H1B renewal stamping but it was denied due to employer issues and I was forced to go back to India.
- Now I cant go back to US to file my 485. My company is still offering to help me on my GC.
I'm still reeling from the shock of my H1B denial. What are my options now?
Is Consular processing the way to go? Will loosing my H1B status have any effect on CP?
Should I start CP immediately or can I wait a few months to try to get back to the US on a new H1B?
Can anyone point me to some online materials detailing CP.
Thanks in advance.

I dont think u'd be barred from entering that country again on a tourist visa but another PR? For sure u can forget that.

Obviously, no employer can plan to retain his employees forever. It is a fact of life that people move on. So the basic question is, does your employer have problems with you quitting? What is his expectation? You will have to have a clear discussion with him and then see what he needs.
Now if his demands are unreasonable, then you can still move on anyway as you are protected due to 180 days passing since 485 filing. Technically, you do not need your 140 copy. Al you really need is evidence that you were with the sponsoring employer for 180 days after 485 filing. This evidence will be your 485 receipt and paystubs.

Multiple submissions will do more damage than good. That's my opinion anyways, I feel that it takes credibility away from our cause.

My wife & i traveled last December and entered on AP. My H1 I797 is still active, but stamping was expired.
They sent us to secondary inspection & i submitted AP, passport, copy of AOS receipts. Half hour later, they returned the AP/passport with I94. No questions asked.
I'm traveling again in Sept and interested in knowing any recent experiences.

I applied on May 18th and my EAD expires on Aug 10th. There were three SLUDs in a row two weeks after I applied, and there is no update after that.
Did you notice any LUDs in your case? Are you still waiting for a decision? Please update.

I went through the same ordeal about a year and a half ago. After unsuccessful attempts to buy it on my own through internet companies, I went to a good agent who got me a 20 year term life policy with a AAA rated company for about $220/year for a 500,000 coverage. Basically, I got the same rate an US citizen would get. I would advise you to go through an agent, they can do multiple quote and many are knowledgeable about H1 visas and the best thing is you don't pay any thing extra because the agents get their commission from the insurance companies. Hi,
My employer "ABC" (Consultancy) based in Ohio made me sign a Cognovit Promissory Note for 'X' amount ( where 'X' is a pretty large amount) on my arrival to US on H1-B visa earlier this year. I've been associated with him for less than an year now.
Question:
Does this note have any significance according to US law, esp. Ohio?
If I plan to move from this consultancy, can this note be held as a Legal Document and any legal action taken against me based on this note?
What is my way out of this?
I would be highly obliged if anyone can provide any help on this matter.

Correct me if I am wrong...but I believe a bill has to pass in both Senate and Congress and signed by President to be enacted into law. Currently the H1/EB bills are only presented in Senate. Any comments?

Can we all try to list some big so called stable banks (as of this writing)........... all we can do is keep the funds in them, but if FDIC tanks, we will loose a LOT.

The only question i have is, my employer though a bank, is not willing to give me a copy of my I140 WHATSOEVER. I tried numerous times and they only say that the attorney (FRAGOMEN) has advised not to give the copy of I140 to the beneficiary. With the banks you know..they may be around or shut any time.
Can you please advise, COPY OF I140 IS REQUIRED, for porting the priority date to new employer?
