I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that adding hdmi to the box is more or less a marketing ploy rather than a necessity.
This is what alot of people believe but try and find a 1080p HDTV in the UK that can display 1080p from a source other than HDMI. All the major brands of HDTVs I looked at will only display a 1080p from HDMI although you can use component to display 1080i. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying a 1080p set though.

Does anyone get sound from the ipod (any gen) and from headphones when pulled in? I thought maybe it was a setting to have both at once. There is no decrease in sound on either device and it is the same when using an aux cable thru a sound system. It is not actually a problem it is just annoying!!

iGary, I think you do need the help. I mean, just look at your signature. ;)
I think that his signature is very nicely colored. Wishing you luck with your dilemma. It wouldn't hurt to meet the person though.

http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20050221082956959 had an article detailing how the trackpad vendor may have changed, and that the newer (1.5ghz +) PBs have slower trackpads, even when cranked up to the fastest setting.
I myself can notice the difference between the newer PBs and my old sony vaio trackpad. (The PB is much slower than I'd like).

Algoriddim has reduced the price of its djay app for the iPhone and iPod touch from $4.99 down to $.99 for a limited time. djay (http://appshopper.com/music/djay-for-iphone-ipod-touch) for the iPhone and iPod touch debuted (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/15/algoriddims-djay-arrives-on-iphone-and-ipod-touch/) in the App Store last month and was preceded by a version for the iPad (http://appshopper.com/music/djay) released in December (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/02/djay-application-for-ipad-released/).
djay provides a virtual turntable interface for music mixing and scratching as well as beat-matching, EQ controls and more. The app takes advantage of several features that debuted with iOS 4.2 in November (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/11/22/ios-4-2-1-now-available/) including full access to the iPod library and AirPlay.

I had an iPad (1st gen) and liked it to an extent. I "need" a computer with me at all times, and the iPad just didn't cut it for me. I gave that to my dad and got an 11" MBA with 4GB, and fell in love. I no longer have to carry the 15 MBP around with me, and the air is such a nice weight and size, and packs the same punch as it's bigger brother the pro with certain obvious limitations. I would go ahead and get a $25 USB DVD burner from newegg, and consider using USB drives or cloud storage as you mentioned. as far as iwork/office goes, if you are making these presentations and not distributing it to others, iwork would be fine. If others are giving you powerpoints and you are displaying them, you might want to get office to ensure compatibility.

Ironic part is, by trying to defend this law the republicans are just speeding up the whole process of it going to court and having it ruled unconstitutional. So thanks to republicans, the Feds may soon be recognizing gay marriages! Who would have thought?

Yes, I'm going to make a moral judgement - if you've just bought a $1200+ computer surely you can afford the $60 to get the three iWork apps from the App Store. If it's tapped out your bank account, wait a few weeks and save up for it.

the shuffle can work as a usb thumb drive on mac and windows systems. in itunes, you need to designate how much space will be allocated for music, and how much for memory usage as a thumb drive (i.e., enable disk mode). i have a 1gb shuffle, and split it evenly to have 512mb for music and 512 for data. a windows machine may or may not need additional drivers to recognize the shuffle as a thumb drive, but other than that, you shouldn't encounter any issues. you can transfer any type of data you want - the only issue willl be whether or not the windows machine can open the mac documents. if the pages document is saved as a ".doc" item, the windows machine should have no problem. just make sure that the pc has the right software to open the mac document you want to transfer.
here's some info straight from the apple support site:
Can I transfer data to iPod shuffle from multiple computers when in disk mode?
Yes. If you put iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can transfer data from multiple computers from the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). You can only load music from one computer, using iTunes.
Can I use iPod shuffle with both a Macintosh and a Windows computer?
Yes. When you place iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can use it to transfer data between multiple computers, running either operating system.
